SVP's FAVE RESTAURANTS

During years of frequent-flier abuse, the intrepid traveler encounters numerous loathsome meals. As a public service, SVP has gathered a list of great restaurants and watering holes. The standard for inclusion into the list that follows is high. That is, I would make a special point to visit them at the expense of any other place in a given city.

Boston    │    Denver    │    Florence    │    Las Vegas    │    London    │    Madison    │    Minneapolis    │    Montreal    │    New England    │    New Orleans    │    New York    │    Orange County    │    Phoenix    │    Rome    │    San Francisco    │    SF Bay Area    │    San Jose    │    Santa Fe    │    Vancouver

It is hoped that this list will help the interested traveler avoid yet another indifferent hotel-meal (or worse). The usual disclaimers aside, please patronize the following:

BOSTON

No Name
15 1/2 Fish Pier St W
Boston, MA 02210
(617) 338-7539
This is the best seafood in Boston, you can watch the fishing boats being unloaded while you sit at picnic tables. VERY fresh and low cost. Cash only. Park near the World Trade Center in South Boston.

Dali
415 Washington Street
Somerville, MA 02143
Phone: (617)661-3254
Favorite tapas bar, on the corner of Kirkland and Beacon Streets. This place is very popular, so get there early.

D'Amores
76 Salem Street
Boston, MA
(617) 523-8820
One of many fine restaurants in the famous North end of Boston. This one has no pretense, and very good values. A great starting point for the evening.

East Coast Grill
1271 Cambridge St.
Cambridge, MA 01239
(617) 491-6568
Excellent and unique Inman Square restaurant. West Indies-inspired and very spicy. Watch out for the rum cocktails. Get there early.

Green Street Grill
280 Green St
Cambridge, MA 02139
(617) 876-1655
More hot food in a convenient Central Square location. You have to walk through a fetid bar to get to the restaurant, but if spicy is your thing, here it is.

La Groceria
853 Main Street
Cambridge, MA 01239
(617) 547-9258
Very good Italian restaurant, massive and tasty antipasto bar. Signature garlic bread and pastas. Mid-priced and well worth it.

Classic "Nordeast" bar, with garlicky roast beef sandwiches that are as big as your head. The jukebox ranges from Lawrence Welk to Lemmy, and the blue-hair could just as easily belong to a 70-year old Ukranian granny as a 17-year old punker. The poetry readings are a hoot.
